About This Park

The Melvin Family Hiking and Biking Trails cover a 150-acre Little Traverse Conservancy forest reserve between Burt and Mullett lakes near Topinabee and Indian River. Rock Solid Trail Contracting of Copper Harbor designed and built more than eight miles of mountain bike trail, opened in April 2024 as Cheboygan County's first professionally built trail system, with gravity trails, sidewinder segments, jump lines, skills features, rollers, and berms for all skill levels. A separate 1.5 miles of designated hiking trails follow old logging roads. The trailhead on Bennett Road has parking, a changing room, a bike repair station and pump, and a portable toilet. E-bikes are currently not allowed.
